So, a quiet day in the blossom trail household. I spent most of it in bed, having been struck down with a revolting lurgy late last night of the "quick, I need a toilet!" variety - too much information, I'm sure. Anyway, I felt weak and wan this morning and afternoon, but am now feeling loads better, so I can only assume that whatever it was has exited my system, thank goodness.
When the children broke up for half-term, all of A's class came out clutching little plant pots filled with compost and, I was reliably informed, a bean had been carefully planted therein. I was doubtful as to whether any life would spring forth, however, on the third day, after careful watering, a little shoot appeared. By the following day, a leaf had appeared at the top of the shoot, as can be seen here:
A is naturally convinced that this is going to grow ever-skywards, and that she will, eventually, be able to join the giant beyond the clouds. I will take another photo tomorrow, as it is now spiralling out of control and is going to have to be repotted in a much bigger pot, and staked, if it is to have any chance of survival. I also have custody of two Bizzy Lizzies (Busy Lizzies??!!) which have to be nurtured and returned to school for judging at the end of term. I'm not sure what methods some people employ in tending their school plants, but ours usually look pretty sorry sights compared to some of the magnificent blooms that turn up on judging (judgment!) day. Perhaps we'll sing to them this year...
